Pelvic floor Physiotherapy
Physiotherapy for the Pelvic Floor can include:
- Assessing the pelvic floor during pregnancy to teach and guide exercises
- Perineal preparation for a vaginal delivery
- Postnatal assessments to guide pelvic floor recovery following pregnancy or vaginal delivery
- Teaching correct pelvic floor exercises / kegals
- Pelvic floor pain assessment and treatment
- Treatment for pelvic organ prolapse
- Assessment of the cause of incontinence and provision of a rehabilitation program
- Bladder urgency and / or incontinence advice and rehabilitation
Why is it helpful to be assessed and provided with a bespoke treatment plan?
- Sometimes ‘Kegals’ or pelvic floor strengthening exercises resolve pelvic floor dyscunfton but this is not always the case
- Women can have dyscunftion for other reasons than lack of strength such as muscle overactivity or tightness, fascial damage, lifestyle factors etc.
- Many women don’t know how to perform a pelvic floor muscle exercise correctly, hence not achieving any benefit from practicing them at home without guidence on technique or correct exercise perscription
- Exercises need to be matched to your current presentation - this might be techning the plevic floor to be more mobile, have more endurance, have more power, working on co-orination and progressivly loading the muscles to tolerate whatever it is you want to be doing
- There is no one size fits all and an individulased plan is a lot more beneficial to your recovery
